How to Make the Best of Travel by Air

Let's face it; going by plane isn't fun anymore.
Not too long ago flying was a special event. Passengers dressed up before getting on a plane. The airline staff treated you as a special customer. They made efforts to make your flight more comfortable, more enjoyable.
This is all gone now. As we are herded through passenger check-in, then through passport control (if it is an international flight), then through security checks, and then to the terminal waiting area, by the time we get on the plane, we are completely disillusioned by the whole prospect of going on airplanes.
Even before the day of the flight, there is the process of making reservations and purchasing tickets. And the pain is sharp when you discover how much it costs to fly.
Flying has become a necessary evil instead of the special event it used to be.
Nevertheless, there are ways to make the best of going on airplanes: from getting cheap flights and discounts on airline tickets, to getting through security smoothly, to making yourself comfortable while on the flight. And it all comes down to pre-flight preparation.

Getting Cheap Flights
While it may be convenient to call a travel agent and ask them to book a flight, you will probably save money by booking the flight yourself on the internet. Online travel consolidators make it very easy to find flights from any origin to any destination.
In addition travel consolidators on the internet offer options to travel in economy or business class or first class. And some airlines that work with the consolidators offer advanced seat selection.
The main advantage to using online travel consolidators is that they get discounted fares for many flights. Some even offer a lowest fare guarantee.
Booking your air reservations online usually results in an e-ticket. You should either print the e-ticket out or at least write the information down. The confirmation number and ticket number will be used by the airline when you check in. You should also make note of your flight numbers and flight times.

Checking In
This is the worst part of flights due to security issues. It may take longer to get through check in procedures than it takes to fly to your destination.
Start with packing. Be aware of what you are allowed to check through, and what you are allowed to carry on board the aircraft. Pack your bags neatly so that if security tells you to open them, you won't be too embarrassed. In addition, a neatly packed bag makes it easier to see that there is nothing illegal in your bag.
With your carry on bag(s), avoid carrying anything that might trip a metal detector. Do not carry scissors or knives of any kind in your carry on. Avoid carrying liquids, too. Airport security are a little hysterical about large bottles of cologne or deodorant.
As you can see, the key to a better flight experience is preparedness. When you go to check-in, your bags are packed neatly, you have your identity documents (passport, driver license, identity card) and flight information handy. Good preparation makes check-in go smoothly.

Dress for security:
Just as you have to prepare your carry-on bag to pass through security, you also need to prepare what you wear. Many travelers have caught on to the absurdity of the security measures, and they dress accordingly. They wear sandals, with or without socks, because you have to remove your shoes.
You also have to remove jackets or coats, and you have to remove your hat. You also have to remove your belt, especially if it contains metal. For this reason, it is better to wear pants that have a drawstring sewn in. Sweat pants are an example.
Even though you need to dress down for an easier security check, don't be too conspicuous. You don't want to wear the worst clothes in the world, and you don't want to stand out in the way you dress. Security personnel may just make your life a little harder just because your clothes catch their eyes.

The Flight
So you got through check-in and security. That's more than half the battle.
As with anything else, preparation is the key to having a comfortable flight. Pack things in your carry-on bag that will make the flight more enjoyable. Books to read, or games to play; if they fit in your carry-on, bring them.
Of course the clothes you wear should not only be for getting through security. They should be comfortable traveling by plane clothes, too. Remember, airplanes are air-conditioned, and the air temperature outside the plane is freezing. Skimpy beach ware would not be advised for a long flight.
One of the most important things when it comes to pre-flight preparation is seat selection. Experience will tell you if a window or an aisle seat is better for you. Just remember, on a long flight, you will want to stand once in a while. This is usually not too convenient from a window seat. But then again, if you are in the aisle, you will have bodies brushing across you as they walk up and down the aisle. And you may have to stand frequently to allow the window passenger to get out.
You probably should not eat or drink too much before or during a flight. Think about it. You'll be mostly sitting, sometimes fot long hours, and that is generally a signal to your inner systems to take a rest and let things pile up. That is not a comfortable way to fly.

The Most Important Thing:
Pre-flight preparation may get you a cheap ticket, may prepare you for a rapid check-in and get you through security without embarrassment. Pre-flight planning may get you a good seat on the plane, and provide you with onboard amusements.
The most important thing to prepare is you. Your attitude can make the flight more enjoyable or more miserable. Anybody who has spent hours on planes, contemplating the discomforts, can tell you this. How you approach the whole ordeal is how the whole ordeal will treat you.
Be aware that there are inconveniences, and the airline personnel may not be able to solve every problem. Be aware that things go wrong sometimes, and baggage gets lost, and you miss your connection. Be aware of these things and then just relax.
Relax before, during, and after a flight. Get yourself into the mood that everything will be fine, even the airline personnel are nice, and smile. Now, a smile may not always work with some of the people you meet. But it will work on you. You will feel better, and most people will treat you better. And that is just about the best thing you can do to make your trip more enjoyable.

Cheap Backpacking - A How to Guide

Cheap backpacking is accomplished in two basic ways? The first is to cut the cost of the trip. The second way is to spend less on the gear you buy. Here are some tips for doing both of these.

Cheap Backpacking Gear :
Don't bother with high-tech gear. Is it really important to have a super wicking poly-fiber t-shirt for when you're hiking? Probably not, especially if it is the middle of July. Any regular t-shirt bought on sale for a few dollars will work. For that matter, a cheap plastic emergency poncho can replace that $200 breathable/waterproof rain suit if rain is unlikely and it's warm out there. You might want to spend the money for better gear if you want lighter versions. In that case, you can still save money by putting the next two tips to use.
Look for the deals. An obvious tip, but easy to forget when you get excited about that shiny new equipment. Shoes and hiking boots in particular can be bought inexpensively if you watch for the sales. Apparently some people won't buy last year's styles, so those $90 shoes go on sale for $40. Look for the closeouts from online vendors and local shoe stores. Thought outdoor clothing is most likely to go on sale, tents, sleeping bags are sometimes half-priced when newer models come out.
Look for used gear. Though I would never buy used shoes, I've found that thrift stores have plenty of used jackets that are in great condition. I've even found decent lightweight hiking pants at times, as well as aluminum pans that are really light and some other backpacking equipment.
Make your own gear. I know of backpackers who sew their own backpacks and sleeping bags. That seems like too much work to me, and I'm not sure the savings would amount to much. But I have modified cheap pans for backpacking, made hats from old thermal shirt sleeves, and bivy sacks from plastic and duct tape. And now that I think about it, I did make a backpack once from an old aluminum frame and a duffel bag. It weighed less than any commercial frame pack for sale at the time.
Skip the expensive foods. You don't need freeze-dried meals to enjoy backpacking. Snacks are a good way to go, and if you really need those cooked meals, bring simple foods like instant rice.

Cheap Backpacking Trips
Plan your own backpacking excursions. Although guided hiking trips can be nice, they are expensive. Just plan your own. Choose a location, do your research online, and start looking for the cheapest plane tickets that will get you there.
Go to free places. Many people automatically think of national parks or other places that have fees when they think of a wilderness experience. But there are many places that are just as beautiful and don't charge anything. Try national forests with hiking trails, for example, or BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land, or state forests. One advantage of this approach - apart from the money savings - is that you'll likely find such area less crowded.
Find a location nearby. For many backpacking trips the cost of getting to the trailhead is the biggest expense. Isn't there someplace interesting to see within an hour or two of where you are? Visit those areas and you might save a lot of travel money.
Now put it all together. Plan your own trip to a free place close to home and outfit yourself with basic clothing bought at thrift stores and equipment bought on sale. That's cheap backpacking.

Leisure Vacations With No Worries

One of the things my wife and I love to do together is travel and vacation as much as possible. We live in the central US, so going any direction is not a problem. The big question we ask ourselves as we decide where we want to go is 'do we want to drive or fly'.

After we have decided that, and after we have called the destination to book our stay there, and determined how we plan to get there, it's just a matter of making sure we have done everything we can and need to do to secure our home while we're away.

It has been our experience, that a worrisome vacation is not a happy vacation if your mind is not there too. We have found ourselves worried about such things as, did we turn the computer off, or is the coffee pot unplugged, and several other things that could be added to that list.

A vacation is not really a "vacation" if you're constantly worried about something you have no control to change. So what we did was create a list of all the things that we need to do before we leave for that long awaited trip.

Your own list should be tailored to your own specifics, but let me offer a few suggestions.
Do not make your plans public...not everyone needs to know your house will be empty for a certain number of days.
Ask law officials or friends to check on your home while you're away.
If you cannot stop the delivery of the newspaper, ask someone to collect those. It's very apparent that no one is home if there is a stack of uncollected newspapers on the lawn or porch.
If you can, turn your water off. We had the hose on our clothes washer blowout while we were away and hot water was spewing out for several days which caused considerable damage to our house.

These are just a few suggestion we offer to help you get the full benefit and enjoyment from your vacation travels. If you would like to know where we travel when that time comes for us, see the link below.

Remember: Memories are made while you're on vacation, but great memories are made while your on a great vacation...with no worries.

Sharing Vacations With Friends

A few years ago, the four of us were able to spend time on the east coast, Cape Cod area. It was absolutely gorgeous. The weather was perfect for early September, and for the eight days we were out there, we enjoyed every minute of it. As a matter of fact, we scheduled two more vacations after that in the Maryland and North Carolina areas.

There's just something about the east coast that is an attraction for my wife and I. We live in the central US so I suppose getting to see the ocean and be part of the "visiting crowd" was a part of the excitement. As of right now, we have a scheduled time away in the Georgia area for the upcoming year.

We were staying in a condo in Mashpee, Mass. on our first trip to the east coast. It was a beautiful setting not far from the ocean but we were only there as a place to sleep. Most of our time was used to travel up to Maine and down to Connecticut. Our goal was to see as much as we could during our stay. I remember stopping for pizza in a town called Mystic Pizza...remember the movie by that name?

There's a lot to write about as far as that vacation goes but I guess what I want to get out to others is that vacations or even small getaways are always better when you can share them with friends or family. To help make that an enjoyable time for all concerned. let me offer a couple of "tips".

The first and most important part of sharing your vacation time with other people is make sure you like the people you're going to be with. I know that may seem like a "duh" statement, but think about this. You may like them in your home occasionally, but would you like to spend several days with them? Will they be "Duds" when you want excitement?
Allow each person, if they want to, to take control of some aspect of the trip. For example you might let one determine where to stay, another will secure the rental car unless you have your own, another may schedule the sightseeing drives, and so on and so on. This gets everyone involved and creates a whole new dynamic that will make for a memorable vacation.
Give each person a day for which the entire group will participate. On one day, one person may want to go whale watching. After looking at the schedules for whale watching in that area, you have determined what day and time you will do that activity and on that day, that's what you do.
One of my great delights, while on vacation, is dining at different restaurants or "eateries". You can get some real surprises from some of those places...some good and some not so good. But whatever the menu, the experience will be unforgettable and may turn out to be one of the memories a great vacation is built around.
Of course sharing the expenses is always a part of experience when your vacationing with others. Be sure to evaluate your available money before you go on any vacation and everyone should determine ahead of time the financial responsibilities of each couple.

There is a lot to consider when you take a trip with others, but with careful planning, you can have an incredible vacation experience.

These are just a few of the things we have done and it really does work. All of us have enjoyed the vacations we have taken together over the years and I believe following these suggestions is one of the keys to having a great time.

Cruise Vacations - 15 Step Planning Guide

Cruises are big floating resorts at sea, that offer a two in one vacation option. With all the energy focused on enjoying the vacation, you may have over looked the complexity of planning. Before taking your cruise vacation you must know what you want and what will be needed. However, do not feel that this too much to handle. A cruise vacation is extremely worth the preparation. If you desire, you could hire a travel consultant to do most of the work for you. Consultants are great resources and might have discounts too.

But, if you are a savvy vacation goer and want to do the preparation yourself, here are simple steps that can be completed so that you can enjoy a wonderful cruise vacation.
1. Write down exactly what you would like to do on your cruise. There is a cruise for everyone, with different themes, interest and activities.
2. Select a destination. The Caribbean and Alaskan cruises have long been favorites among cruise goers.
3. Select what time of year you would like to go on your cruise. Pick a season that is favorable to you. High season means a lot of visitors; you may want to go on your cruise when there are less people traveling to that destination at that particular season.
4. Choose a cruise line. Each cruise line offers different amenities, on board activities, shore excursions, dinning selections and time schedules. Base your cruise line choice on your personality and the activities you wish to partake in.
5. Decide how long you want to stay. Remember to add an extra day to any cruise and use that extra day to arrive at the port a day earlier; this way you should not miss the boat.
6. Find the best bargain. When booking your trip early you are almost always going to receive a discount. Other discounts can be found based on the season, travel agent and your age. Do note: cruises with unique itineraries or popular cruises may not offer many discounts.
7. Buy Insurance. Look for an insurance plan that will provide enough coverage for your vacation needs
8. Decide how will you arrive at the port? Which ever way you choose, book your transportation to the port and the rest of your trip through the cruise line or travel agent. This will make the cruise line or travel agent responsible for getting you to your cruise (certain conditions do apply).
9. Pay for your cruise and calculate the total fixed cost of your trip. Once you know how much you have spent, give yourself a budget for everything else.
10. Documentation should be a passport. Check with your cruise line to see if additional identification may be needed.
11. Pack a carry on bag and leave it separate from your luggage. The carry on should have your medication, documentation, change of clothes and anything else you would immediately need after boarding
12. Secure your home and make sure pets are taken care of.
13. Cruise lines will only accept your original documents.
Make copies of your important documents and leave then in a safe place or with a responsible person.
14. Board early and pay for shore excursions before the line starts
15. Set sail and enjoy your cruise.

How to Find and Enjoy the Best Cruise Vacations

The perfect cruise vacations are the dream of millions of people around the World. Sitting by the cruise pool, enjoying a delicious pina colada and preparing to visit a wonderful destination... it is a dream indeed. And guess what? It is a dream that can become true! You can enjoy the best cruise vacations if you invest a little time on PLANNING.

The first step to elaborate a good cruise travel plan is setting your goals. This includes two things: choosing your preferred destinations and choosing your preferred cruise type. If this is your first time planning cruise vacations, you should know that there are not only many places to visit (the Caribbean, Alaska, etc.) but also there are a lot of different types of cruise available like family cruises, singles cruises, golf cruises, Christmas cruises, luxury cruises, just to name a few. You can choose a cruise type that adjusts better to the kind of vacations you want.

Then you also have to choose a cruise line. There are many great cruise lines out there like Royal Caribbean, Holland America or Carnival. If you get overwhelmed by the amount of options and features a cruise ship has, don't fret. You can always get help from your travel agent. Travel agents are people that specialize in getting a cruise ship according to your needs. They will also give you brochures for you to check what's inside the ship.

Besides those factors to keep in mind, here are also great tips to choose the best cruise vacations:
What's your style? The cruises have different activities to do inside the ship, and this will help you also know fellow travelers. Ask about them and consider if you will feel 100% comfortable.
Keep in mind the weather. Get to know well what kind of weather is expecting you on your cruise vacations and bring according clothes.
Is it too fast for you? Some cruise packages include fast-paced itineraries. This for some people means vacations with zero relaxation. If you plan to relax, choose a cruise that is not so heavy on activities.
Ask for extra charges. There are cruise lines that will charge you extra if you bring food to the ship. Beware also of unnecessary charges.
Remember to have fun! These best cruise vacation tips are worthless if you do not include fun in your plan. Planning takes some time, but once on your vacations, just relax and enjoy it at the max!

Spending More on Your Holiday Makes Sense

Paying a little bit extra for a holiday could in fact bring more peace of mind to consumers both before the break and while they are away, it has been claimed. Indeed opting to choose a reputable tour operator can lead to greater protection from the prospect of things going wrong, a spokesperson for the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) has said.

Ian Bradley a spokesperson for the organization stated that in the current economic climate, opting to book a holiday with a respected tour operator offers better financial protection in the event of any problems, even though the cost may be more.
Anybody wishing to take advantage of this extra peace of mind that do not have enough money to do so, could opt for a cheap personal loan to cover the extra cost. By funding a holiday with a loan, the cost of the trip can be spread over a longer period, offering more financial stability.

Mr Bradley said: "In the current climate people are prepared to maybe pay a little bit more just for peace of mind, so they know they are going to go with an operator who gives them so financial protection - like AITO members." He added that while costs could be higher, the knowledge that there was a certain level of financial protection in place helps to justify the extra cost.

Also if a cheap deal offered online appears to be too good to be true, more often than not it will be, he claims. "In this economic climate the last thing you want to do is lose your shirt by booking with a dodgy operator."

As well as the ongoing effects of the credit crunch, the recent rises in fuel costs have also had an effect on the cost of travel - and a number of airlines have in recent months reported an increase in costs as a result of crude oil price rises. But consumers who are keen to have their two weeks in the sun no matter what may possibly be interested in the use of a loan to spread the outgoings over a longer period of time.

Ebookers 2008 Travel Opinion report indicated that more than 50 per cent of people questioned stated that they had booked their holiday early because of the continuing effects of the credit crunch. Indeed the majority of people also considered a holiday to be either important or an absolute necessity, while 12 per cent of people saw a soujourn as a luxury.

Other research conducted earlier this year, by Kayak, found that 90 per cent of people surveyed believe at least one holiday a year to be one of the five most important factors for overall happiness. Other factors noted for their happiness-bringing properties included owning a home, being in a stable relationship and starting a family.
But as many as 98 per cent of the people interviewed claimed they would do without other luxuries so they could go on holiday.

Earlier this year, research conducted by the AA suggested that a number of British holidaymakers are now considering taking a domestic break as opposed to their usual trip overseas as a result of the ongoing effects of the credit crunch - which is putting further constraints on people's spare cash.

How to Plan a Cheap Vacation

Three years ago, my friends Judith and Joc quit their corporate jobs and decided to move to the southwest of France. This was an enormous decision to make considering they had two small children and they didn't know anyone in France. In Loire Valley, not far from Cognac and Bordeaux, they purchased a dilapidated farm and renovated it into a countryside inn with private cottages that have fully-equipped kitchens and in the main building, they have created a bed and breakfast which have guest rooms and common areas with the same lovely charm of French country.

They have done an incredible job with creating an intimate atmosphere where their guests come to spend their vacations again and again. They have eloquently named their bed and breakfast, Domaine de la Porte (The House of Doors). Each cottage and guest room has been meticulously decorated. Breakfast and dinner are served family-style for good reason; my friends want you to feel welcome in their home and part of the family. Their approach has been tremendously successful, so much so that they are now attracting family reunions, destination weddings, and even off-site business meetings.

I had the luxury of spending six weeks with my friends this past spring and what I discovered was a gem of an idea. Thanks to Judith and Joc, I can provide you a terrific idea of how you can spend a vacation for free or nearly no-cost. As you can imagine, running a bed and breakfast requires a lot of money to get started and to keep it running!
Each week during my visit new people arrived. Most were paying guests; others though were guests that earned their vacation through bartering. This cheap vacationing idea was of great interest to me.

The intricate gardens with every local flower in place was designed and implemented by a professional landscape architect. How could they afford this gorgeous setting I wondered? When I asked my girlfriend, she let me in on their secret of bartering. The professional landscaper spent a week creating the gardens at this beautiful establishment in exchange for a week vacation at some later date.

The website photographs and the event photography for weddings, vow renewals, and family reunions were professionally done too by a professional photographer who exchanged his services for vacation time.

As I dug deeper, I discovered my friends had really leveraged this bartering concept and exchanged vacations for the following services:
1. Local vineyards provide wine 2. Computer network specialist 3. Bicycle repairman maintains their fleet of bicycles 4. Housekeeping and serving waiters 5. Electrician 6. Construction workers 7. Interior designer 8. Laundry services 9. Website design 10. Musicians 11. Landscaper 12. Auto mechanic
I'm sure that the list goes on and on, but in my brief stay these are the bartering arrangements I have witnessed. With a little imagination, you and your family can create a very cheap vacation package by finding an innkeeper willing to barter.
Where have you always wanted to visit but didn't think you could afford? • The Florida keys? • The French countryside? • The British Isles? • The Rocky Mountains? • Australia? Brazil? Thailand?
Choose your desired vacation spot and make a few calls to the local private bed and breakfast establishments. Explain your interest in bartering your service in exchange to travel to their bed and breakfast. You may be surprised to find out that the owners of this fine establishment would welcome your expertise in exchange for some rest and relaxation! Cheap vacations can be yours with a little creative planning.
What a terrific way to see the world on the cheap!

Packing Ideas and Tips For Traveling

Knowing how to pack a suitcase is essential to being a good traveler. Ever wonder how to pack light and still stay in style, my suggestion is to pick a basic color that you enjoy wearing and then add two other accessory colors and when you do this it will look and feel like you have several different outfits, for the males it is easy just a different shirt or tie and they are set.

The first think you want to do is start making a list of all the different items you will need for your trip, mentally take a note of all the activities and places you will be visiting and what you will be doing there so that you can gather all the items you will need for them. Pack a couple of plastic coat hangers in your bag, it seems like they never have enough hangers in the hotel rooms, if you pack plastic ones they weight almost nothing and are very handy to have.

When packing liquids remember they can expand under pressure, so never fill to the top and/or take some out if it is a new container. Toiletries should be as small as possible, and packed in sealable plastic bags for protection against spillage.

Pack each outfit in its own large re-sealable plastic bag, the rolling method works well for this packing style. If you have bulky items like for skiing use space bags that suck out all the air, you can fit so much more in your suitcase. The only word of caution here is that you want your suitcase to be packed firm so the contents won't shift and also you want to keep in mind to pack so your clothes will unpack wrinkle free.

Guard against lost luggage woes by packing your plastic bag(s) of toiletries in your carry-on bag, along with your most valuable items, and one change of clothes. Put all of your camera and computer items together in one carry-on bag, it will be easier during inspection, and then easier to put it all back together again after inspection.

Be vigilant in removing metal and in packing your carry-on. You also need to be aware of metal and batteries etc in you checked luggage, as that sometimes sets off an inspection alarm and may delay your luggage, it is easier to carry these items in your carry on so they can inspect them during your personal check in, rather than delay your checked in luggage.

No matter what type of bag you are packing, you will want to avoid spilling any liquids on your clothes or equipment and when you arrive at your destination unpack your bags as soon as possible after you get into your hotel room.

What to Pack on Your Caribbean Villa Vacation

If this is your first villa vacation, you are probably wondering what to bring with you and what will be provided at the villa. This varies depending on location and nightly rate of the villa rental so the focus will be on moderate priced Caribbean villas. The higher the rate, the more amenities and services you will receive.

Most of the villas will not come stocked with shampoo, conditioner, lotion, dishwashing soap etc. like you have at a hotel so you will need to provide your own. With today's luggage regulations, I would recommend purchasing these items which are usually readily available after you arrive at your destination. Some villas offer a pre-stocking service, if you do not want to go grocery shopping. However, if you do have a favorite product that you can't live without, I would bring it with you since the selection is limited and the price is high.

You are going to the Caribbean so of course you will need sunscreen. Sunscreen is available at a high price and the stores may not have the SPF that you are looking for. So I would pack sunscreen in your checked luggage and put it in a zip lock baggie. Most of the time in the tropical environment of the Caribbean bug spray is necessary especially if you are prone to bug bites, so I would pack a small bottle in your checked luggage.
In addition to the obvious items such as your bathing suit, clothes, sweater (it can get chilly in the evenings and in the air-conditioning), other items to remember are: Water shoes, sunglasses, umbrella, camera and passport depending on which island you are traveling to.

Lastly, make sure to pack in your carry on luggage, a bathing suit (in case your luggage gets lost, you can still swim in the pool or ocean), medicines, camera and important documentation.

New York
Being a city with so much to see and so many landmarks, as well as the most important financial center of the US, New York is a must to see. While the lifestyle is very busy, you will discover world class hotels, restaurants, and museums. You could go for a walk through Central Park, take the famous "Sex and the City tour", and the New York shopping on 5th Avenue is to die for!
New York will lead you to loads of famous landmark attractions. Some of these include The Statue Of Liberty, The Empire State Building, and Times Square, which contains The Nokia Theater or the Hammerstein Ballroom if you are looking to see a concert. Another city which deserves it's place amongst the top 10 must see cities in the world.

Rome
Rome, being a very historic city, is one of the most visited cities on earth. If you are in Rome, you might as well visit the National Pasta Museum and satisfy your hunger. Other places you will want to visit are The Rostrum, which was where Mark Anthony made his famous "Friends, Romans, countrymen" speech, The Parthenon, The Dario Argento's Horror Museum, The Museum of Souls in Purgatory, The Colosseum, The famous Trevi Fountain and The International Museum of Film and Entertainment.
You will want to allow plenty of time to see all of these amazing historic landmarks. A couple more not to be missed are The Basilca, which contains the tomb of the original Pope, St Peter, and the Isola Tiberina, which is in the middle of the Tiber river and is the smallest inhabited island in the world. Take a wander along The Strip, to see all of the major hotels competing with each other to be the biggest, and the best, the loudest, and the most outrageous.
After you have had enough of that atmosphere, take a tour to the Grand Canyon, or take in one of the famous shows in the evening. Las Vegas is probably to be taken in small doses, but well worth the visit.

But traveling or sometimes even planning a trip can be more of a stress. So many things have to be considered before planning for that perfect holiday - accommodation, places to visit, What to buy?, etc. Here are some tips to make your holiday a memorable one.

Set a Budget: Before chalking out a plan for the holiday, the most important thing is to set a budget. It helps you to plan and enjoy the trip within your limits. Always estimate a little more than what you might need.

Plan Ahead: The first thing you need to do is to be sure of what you need from this trip. Do you want to experience the local culture or just have fun on those sandy beaches? Do you wanna mingle with the locals or fade away from busy people and the world? Strategize your trip according to your needs and likes.

Read Up Before you Go: Prepare yourself before plunging into an unknown holiday destination. Buy a good guidebook and read up on the culture, history, local attractions of the destination. You can read the local publications on-line or surf the net for more information. The more you know, the better you can enjoy or appreciate the place and their traditions.

Pack Light and Right (Pack Only the Essential Things): Avoid carrying unnecessary things around. A heavy luggage may sometimes dampen your holiday spirit. Carry clothes that are comfortable and right for the season. As much as possible try to stuff everything you need in a single carry-on bag.

Always Reserve your Stay: It's always better to book your stay if possible because all you need is a good night's sleep after an exciting day.

Have Realistic Expectations: Unreasonable expectations can lead to unwanted stress, so enjoy the holiday by managing what you can with the time you have. Embrace each moment, whether good or bad.
